യാത്ര തുടരുന്നു...

ഇതു കോടാനുകോടി വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുന്പുള്ള ഒരു കഥയാണ്‌... പണ്ടു പണ്ടു അങ്ങകലെ കോടിക്കണക്കിനു പ്രകാശ വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കുമപ്പുറത്തു ഒരു ഗാലക്സിയില്‍ ഒരു നക്ഷത്രമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു... സൂര്യന് സമാനമായ ആ നക്ഷത്രത്തിന് സൌരയൂഥത്തിന് സമാനമായ ഒരു ഗോളവലയമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു... അതില്‍ ജീവന്റെ അംശമുള്ള ഒരേ ഒരു ഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു... നമ്മുടെ ഭൂമിയുമായി വളരെയധികം സാമ്യമുള്ള ആ ഗ്രഹത്തില്‍ മനുഷ്യരടക്കം അനേകം ജീവജാലങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു... മരങ്ങളും പുഴകളും പൂക്കളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു... കാലം ഒരുപാടു കടന്നു പോയി... ജീവജാലങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ ബുദ്ധിയും സാമര്‍ത്യവും കൂടുതല്‍ ഉള്ള ജീവിയായി മനുഷ്യന്‍ സ്വയം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു തുടങ്ങി... ഒരു നാള്‍ കല്ലുകള്‍ കൂട്ടിയിടിച്ചാല്‍ അഗ്നിയുണ്ടാകുമെന്നു അവന്‍ കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചു... മൃഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മേലുള്ള അവന്റെ ആധിപത്യം അവന്‍ അവിടെ ആരംഭിച്ചു... ചക്രം അവന്റെ യാത്രയ്ക്ക് വേഗം നല്കി... കാലചക്രം പിന്നെയും ഒരുപാടു യാത്ര ചെയ്തു... മനുഷ്യശരീരം കീറി മുറിക്കാനും ഗര്‍ഭപാത്രമില്ലാതെ മനുഷ്യജീവനെ സൃഷ്ടിക്കാനും അവന്‍ പഠിച്ചു.
വിമാനവും കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറും അവന്‍ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു. അവന്‍ ബഹിരാകാശത്ത് യാത്ര ചെയ്യാനും തുടങ്ങി... ആ ഗോളത്തിലെ മലകളും കുന്നുകളും കൊടുമുടികളും ഇടിച്ചു നിരത്തി അവന്‍ വീടുകളും ഫാക്ടറികളും നിര്‍മ്മിച്ചു... പുരോഗതിയുടെ കൊടുമുടി കയറിയതിയായി അവന്‍ അഭിമാനിച്ചു. ഒരുനാള്‍ ശാസ്ത്രലോകം അത് കണ്ടെത്തി... ആ ഗോളത്തിലെ അന്തരീക്ഷതാപം ഉയരുന്നു... ഐസ് കട്ടകള്‍ ഉരുകി ഗോളം വെള്ളത്തില്‍ മുങ്ങാന്‍ പോകുന്നു... ശ്വാസവായു ഇല്ലാതായി ജീവജാലങ്ങള്‍ ചത്തൊടുങ്ങാന്‍ പോകുന്നു... ഉടനെ എന്തെങ്കിലും ചെയ്തില്ലെങ്കില്‍ മനുഷ്യരാശിയും ജീവന്റെ തുടിപ്പും ആ ഗോളത്തില്‍ ഇല്ലാതാകും... എന്ത് ചെയ്യും? അപ്പോഴേക്കും അവന്റെ മനസ്സില്‍ ഒരു ഉപായം തെളിഞ്ഞു...

അങ്ങകലെ കോടിക്കണക്കിനു പ്രകാശ വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ അകലെ ഭൂമി എന്നൊരു ഗ്രഹമുണ്ടെന്നും അതില്‍ വെള്ളവും വായുവും ജീവജാലങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടെന്നും അവന്‍ നേരത്തെ തന്നെ കണ്ടു പിടിച്ചിരുന്നു. അവരുടെ ഗോളം മുങ്ങാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ നിമിഷം അവര്‍, കുറച്ചു മനുഷ്യര്‍, ഒരു പേടകത്തില്‍ കയറി ഭൂമിയിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്ര തിരിച്ചു. ദിനോസറുകളും ആള്‍ക്കുരങ്ങുകളും തവളകളും നിറഞ്ഞ ഭൂമിയില്‍ അങ്ങനെ മനുഷ്യന്‍ കാലുകുത്തി. ധരിക്കാന്‍ വസ്ത്രമോ താമസിക്കാന്‍ കുടിലോ ഇല്ലാതിരുന്ന അവന്‍ വായു ശ്വസിച്ചും വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചും പഴങ്ങള്‍ കഴിച്ചും ഭൂമിയിലെ തന്റെ യാത്രയ്ക്ക് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു.

Genetically Engineered Toxic Food

GEAC has given approval for the commercial cultivation of Bt Brinjal. If the central minister for environment Mr. Jairam Ramesh approves it, we will see large scale cultivation of genetically modified crops. India is the home of Brinjal and we have over 4000 varieties of natural brinjal which are grown in abundant in many parts of our country. The first question is "Do we really want Genetically Modified food?" The second question is "What tests have been done to prove that this is safe for human consumption?"
